A LITTLE ABOUT DR. NOE

ABOUT

Dr. Cheryl Cheves Noe has been practicing veterinary medicine in central North Carolina since graduating from NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.  A Franklin County native, she still lives on her great-grandparents' farm with her growing family and a multitude of animals, of course!  Her faith, family, and friends are all very important to her.

Having walked with many pets and their pet parents through end of life care, she understands how heartbreaking the experience can be.  Her desire is to help to make such a difficult season in a cherished pet's life a little smoother.  She knows from personal experience with her own pets that when the family is able to stay with their pet in a place that is familiar and comfortable, the whole process is a little bit easier to endure.

What to expect
  • When the appointment is scheduled: We will plan to meet at a specified time and location.  This discussion is an opportunity for you to let me know if there is any pertinent information about your pet that I need to know (e.g. fears or anxieties, aggression, previous medical problems, etc.) and I will answer questions that you may have.

  • Before I arrive: Choose an area that is comfortable for you and your pet; this can be inside your home, outside in your yard, or at another location that is special to you (i.e. if we have arranged to meet somewhere else).  If you will have bedding for your pet to lay on, remember that it should be washable in case it becomes soiled, which is common. Spend time with your pet in preparation; consider giving special treats if your pet is still eating, brushing or other grooming that your pet enjoys, take photos, give and receive lots of love!

  • When I arrive: We will discuss the procedure and go over any further questions or concerns.  There is also a little bit of paperwork to complete.

  • The procedure: First, your pet will receive an injection of a sedative which will ease their pain and send them into a deep slumber.  Some family members may choose to move to another space after the pet is sleeping so as to not be present for the final part of the process while others may opt to remain with the pet throughout.  After 10-15 minutes when, the first medication has reached its full effect, the second injection that will be given is simply an overdose of anesthesia which will allow your pet to pass away quickly and quietly.  I will confirm that the pet has deceased and verbally relate this to you.

  • Afterwards: If your pet is remaining with you at home for burial, I will excuse myself and discreetly depart.  If your pet will be transported for cremation, I will step away so that you can say your final farewell. Only when you are ready, I will lovingly convey them with me.  We will notify your family veterinarian of your pet’s passing.
